Intecho complete operational handover and confirm contract for St James Quarter

Intecho complete operational handover and confirm contract for ongoing support to one of the UK's largest regeneration projects.

With an investment value of over £1 billion, St James Quarter in Edinburgh is one of the largest and most significant regeneration projects in the UK.

Nuveen invested in this 1.7 million sq. ft urban resort, comprising 850,000 sq. ft of retail space, anchored by John Lewis, a cinema, as well as two hotel chains, and we were fortunate enough to be part of Laing O’Rourke’s project team that helped bring this vision to life.

For a project of this scale, it has been key to maximise the functionality of the building controls to ensure energy is being utilised efficiently to reduce running costs and support sustainability targets. It was important to support the team’s brand vision and help bring the vibrant destination to life with our smart lighting capabilities, to not only enhance the visitors’ experience, but also provide the perfect internal environment for those working in the building.

Since opening the doors in June 2021, St James Quarter has completely redefined retail-led mixed-use through the scale, innovation, and quality of its offers, and has positioned Edinburgh as one of the most exciting and forward-thinking destinations for retail and leisure operators in Europe, not forgetting the value it has added to the community, with 80% of the workforce being employed from the local area.

To continue enhancing the experience this impressive destination adds to visitors and residents, robust maintenance is required, and we’re delighted to announce that we were officially contracted to provide ongoing support to the facilities management team to ensure the lighting control system continues to operate seamlessly, particularly as we move into the busy festive season. In addition to this, Intecho will also be providing further training and support to the team as the system is put to the test, proving its dynamic capabilities for users to easily adjust all light levels as required for temporary events or permanent energy saving changes.

Commenting on this achievement, Steve Newby, Commercial Services Manager at Intecho said:

“We are so proud of our technical achievement and delivery of this system, despite the difficulties posed by covid and other associated impacts. The Intecho team is passionate about ensuring all our systems are maintained to the exacting standard in which they’re delivered and we’re looking forward to assisting our client with ongoing maintenance to support with energy optimisation as we collectively move towards a greener future.”
