The new building is made up of 20 storeys, the lower 8 floors house Motel One’s 328 rooms and facilities. Whilst the upper part of the building contains 256 one-bed and studio apartments belonging to Staycity – Manchester first Wilde Aparthotel, which offers guests a “home from home” experience while visiting the city.

Features include a 24-hour reception, lounge area, gym, and dedicated workspace for guests to use, all tastefully decorated to ensure consistency with both hotel brands.

Russell WBHO were the primary contractors, with Intecho playing a crucial role in the delivery team, ensuring that the smart lighting and building controls were designed and commissioned to work harmoniously to create the best possible environment and ambience for the guests and hotel staff.

The project commenced 186 weeks ago with the controlled demolition of Peterloo House Office block, over which this new site was erected. In an interview, Gareth Russell, joint managing director of Russell WBHO discussed the challenges presented by Covid restrictions and managing projects for two different operators under one roof.

Despite this, he praised all teams involved as they were able to complete the project in a good timeframe.

“It is testament to the collaborative efforts of the architects, engineers, sub-contractors, clients’ representatives, developer, funder and the Russell WBHO team who have, together, delivered another excellent addition to Manchester’s visitor offering.” – Gareth Russell, Joint Managing Director WBHO

Both hotels are now open for business and welcoming guests. Sean McFall, Motel One Area manager said: “We’re thrilled with the hotel, it’s stunning and we’re very excited to start welcoming customers through the doors. Demand for rooms within Manchester has returned and this trend is expected to continue throughout the year, so the addition of Motel One St Peter’s Square couldn’t come at a better time.”
